Hello All,

By lusakasunrise

Hello,

This is Silas Hagerty the director of “Lusaka Sunrise“. I hope you’ve had a chance to check out the film and we’re very excited to hear your feedback. One of our goals from the beginning of this project was to have the discourse surrounding the film be equally as important as its content. So I encourage everyone to leave a comment, drop an email, and let us know what the film left you with. The HIV/AIDS problem in Africa can be very overwhelming yet I hope this film highlights some specific strategies/tactics that may be helpful in the fight against it. We’re not asking you to join organizations, give money, none of that,….we’re simply hoping that this film will act as a catalyst for discussion and exploration. Thanks so much for your time and we’d love to hear from you.

All the best, -Silas

    HI

I should start by saying that I am a couchsurfer member and this is how I ended up taking a looking at this film. I think the film is touching, in the few minutes it has, it shows a positive side and focus on what education and sports can accomplish in vulnerable populations such as this one in Africa. However i was curious to know more about how the system worked, i mean as far as education goes, who is the main source of their knowledge .. and are the kids able to answer each other questions?…. anyways i enjoyed it…..good music, good message!

    Hi,
I am also a Couch Surfing member and that was the link to know about this documentary. First of all, respect and congratulations for the good work… the content is a very good one and the film is inspiring. Keep it up!
I think it would be interesting to read the answer to the above Lili’s question about the way the educational system works. Onde more, congratulations!

    Hi,

i must say that I was watching this film with tears in my eyes because I`ve spent a year in Zambia and for me it was really touching. I think the film is very good but it shouldn

shoudn`t be shown to us but most of all to the Africans as an example. An example to follow. Especially in small villages where youth have nothing to do with their time. Then it is natural that sex starts to act as the only amusement. So I think that coordinators should be sent to even the smallest schools to organise something like sport clubs, to find some local people who can be in charge and keep it gong in the right direction.
When I was living in zambian village I could see on my own eyes how many children have lost their parents. It`s so popular disease that we can take a risk and say that everyone in Zambia knows someone from his or her environment who have Aids. That

some of us can`t even emagine. So I think that the only way to help is to work with the youth, the new generation who is more open-minded and want to act.

    Silas,

Fantastic film which touches on all the right notes regarding the power of football and the educational benefits it can provide in combating the pandemic that is HIV/AIDS. I am as you are hopeful that the awareness your film is raising will reach many around the world both young and old and ultimately save lives through awareness. Thank you for caring, for your humanity, and for your willingness to make a difference!

I saw the film on Vimeo and watched because my mom was born in Zambia. I wasn’t expecting to see what I saw, but I am so glad I did! It is a really excellent film, and I hope more people will see it. I would like to show it here in my town, with your permission of course. My friends and I make a website called “Actively Moving” which is a movement we are trying to stir up in our hometown to encourage and motivate ourselves and others to “get a move on”… to do things that are positive for the earth and our fellow humans. You are all definitely doing that.

I really like the idea of using a universal sport to bring different people together in order to educate them about HIV. It’s a really great thing you are doing and I wish you all the best!
